Tech behemoth Apple is reportedly considering utilizing made-in-India chips for the iPhones created in the nation, which would be a significant boost to the rapidly expanding Indian semiconductor industry.
Apple is in discussions to establish plants in India to obtain $12 billion worth of chips for the iPhones made in India with Micron Technology, the Tata Group, and other chip makers.
According to a source cited by the journal, if Micron and Tata Group’s operations provide the grades required by Apple, then these companies will supply the majority of the chips required for iPhones, opening up enormous commercial opportunities.
The source added that despite demand from the auto, aerospace, and defense industries for these chips, no single company could match Apple’s expenditure on microchips created in India.
