Cabinet Appoints Arunish Chawla as Revenue Secretary

A month before the presentation of the Budget, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet on Wednesday appointed Arunish Chawla, Secretary in the Department of Pharmaceuticals, as following Revenue Secretary.

Chawla, a 1992-batch IAS officer from the Bihar cadre, will succeed Ajay Seth, who has been carrying the extra job of Revenue Secretary after Sanjay Malhotra’s request as the RBI Governor.

After a permanent appointment is made, Chawla, who worked as Secretary in the Department of Pharmaceuticals since November 2023, will continue to serve as Director in the Ministry of Culture. His term is set to expire in July 2028, leaving him with more than three years left on his tenure.

During the course of her career, Chawla held positions as Senior Economist at the IMF, Minister (Economics) in the Indian Embassy in the United States, and Joint Secretary in the Finance Ministry’s Expenditure Department from 2014 to 2016.

Vineet Joshi has been selected Secretary in the Department of Higher Education, and Amit Agrawal, CEO of UIDAI, will be Secretary in the Department of Pharmacies.
